School’s Out. The Canes Won. Five Weeks to Band Camp!

I don’t know that I’m quite ready for my youngest child to be only two years away from graduation, but just like that, we now have some Juniors in the FGHS Band!

In other news, band camp is just five weeks away — and for the first time, we’ll have it at the school. While Mr. Foster is taking a well-earned vacation, the boosters board and committee chairs are already working hard to make this season a great one. Some of the activity that’s happening:

  • Lee, our Dance/Movement Technician, shared that FGHS is hosting the First Flight Winter Guard Spin Clinic this Saturday.

  • Kerri, our VP of Volunteers, sent out a request for feedback about last year’s experiences so we can make volunteering easier and better this year.

  • Hazel and Kara, our returning Drum Majors, shared information for students in the Band app about preparing for band camp.

  • Jerry and Ryan, our new Logistics VPs, are planning the props for this year’s show and starting work on our transportation needs.

Registration

To improve registration this year, we’re testing an online process to make it faster and easier for you to complete your information and sign the required WCPSS forms on your phone or computer.

We’re also planning a kickoff event at the school so you can ask questions, get sized for gloves and marching shoes, connect with other band parents, and find out how you can help the band.

We’ll share more registration details soon.

This Week

Here are three things you can do this week to prepare for the new season:

  1. Review the band calendar.
If you have any scheduling conflicts, enter them in the Band Program Absence Google form.

  2. If your student participated last year, find their marching or guard shoes and gloves. Make sure they still fit and are in good condition.
If you have too-small shoes that are in good condition, let our uniform committee know. They might find new life on another student’s feet!

  3. Review the Band Handbook with your student.

Have a great week and stay cool!
