Silas Josephson
MUSIC TECHNICIAN
Silas Josephson is the Music Technician for the Felton Grove High School Marching Band, bringing expertise and dedication to help shape the program’s early success and development.
With extensive experience as a marching band instructor, Silas previously held a staff position with the Cary High School Marching Band from 2016 to 2025, instructing both brass and woodwind sections. He also played a role as a founding staff member of the Cary Indoor Winds. During his time with Cary, he helped contribute to the band’s numerous accolades, including multiple North Carolina Bandmasters Association (NCBMA) Class and Grand Champions, Bands of America Regional Finalists, WGI Winds Regional Class Championships, and AIA Winds Class Championships.
Silas earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Western Carolina University’s School of Music in 2020, where he studied tuba. At WCU, he held principal tuba positions in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Honors Tuba/Euphonium Quartet, and Balsam Brass Quintet. He was also a four-year member of the distinguished Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, where he served as Sousaphone Section Leader for two years and as Low Brass Caption Coordinator in 2019, when the band performed at the 93rd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
In addition to his work at Felton Grove, Silas has served as the Band Director at Hilburn Academy in Raleigh since 2021. Under his leadership, the middle school band program has consistently earned high ratings at contests and grown to include over 50% of the school’s student body. He remains actively engaged in the music education community as a member of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
