Band Camp
Band Camp is five weeks of intense training, fun, and bonding that starts marching band season and runs from July 20 through August 21. This year, we’ll finally be at Felton Grove, working both on the practice field and indoors to learn our music and our show. We’ll also learn the songs we’ll play at home football games this year.
Schedule
The first four weeks of band camp run from 9:00-4:00 with a lunch break from 12:00-1:00.
For the last week (August 17-21), band camp is in the evening from 5:00-8:00.
These dates and times are already on our calendar.
At the end of band camp, we are planning our first ever friends and family cookout. It will be an opportunity for the kids to show off everything they’ve learned with a short performance, followed by dinner. We’ll have more information on that event soon!
Drop Off and Pick Up
Drop off and pick up is expected to be at the band room. Please remember: early is on time, on time is late.
If you need to carpool, the Band app is a great place to reach out and find others interested in sharing responsibilities for drop off and pick up.
Start times: students should be ready to start rehearsing at the listed time, so arrive with enough time to find your way and get settled.
End times: Mr. Foster and the staff will stop rehearsing at the listed end times. Instruments need to be put away, areas straightened up, etc. before everyone can leave, so please be patient as everyone gets used to the routine.
What You Need
If you’re new to North Carolina or haven’t touched grass in a while: July and August are hot! While we will shift practices around as needed for extreme weather, plan to be outside and working hard much of the day. You will need:
Comfortable clothing you can move in. You’ll be both inside and outside over the course of the day.
Athletic shoes — this is not the time for flip-flops, sandals, or Crocs!
Sunscreen, hat, and/or sunglasses — whatever will make you most comfortable when you’re outside.
Water jug with at least ½ gallon capacity. As the kids say: hydrate or diedrate!
Instrument, music, and accessories (reeds, sticks, etc.)
Any medication you would typically keep with you (inhalers, Epi-pens, etc.) and pain relievers, if desired.
We will have a first aid kit on site, but we can not administer medications.Lunch! For full day rehearsals, the band boosters will provide snacks twice a day, but you should definitely bring lunch.
